According reports from GMA news, the expedition found remnants of the Musashi hundreds of feet under the sea with Allen posting an underwater photo showing the bow and anchor of the sunken ship through Twitter.

During its prime, the Musashi and its sister battleship the Yamato were the largest battleships ever built. It was protected with several inches of solid steel armor and can carry up to 7 seaplanes. The ship was also manned by more than 1,000 sailors & soldiers.

Both Yamato-class ships were bristling with firepower unmatched by any navy. Weapons include: 18-inch main guns, six 155mm guns, 12 127mm guns, 35 3x25mm and 25 1x25mm anti-aircraft guns, and four 13mm guns.

The Musashi was sunk in 1944 when American aircraft relentlessly attacked the battleship during the early days of the Battle of Leyte Gulf. It was part of the central force, under the japanese Operation Sho Go. The task force was under the command of Admiral Kurita who was tasked to smash the Allied forces that just landed in Leyte withGen. Douglas McArthur.

According to naval historians, the Musashi absorbed 20 torpedo hits and 17 direct bombs strikes from enemy warplanes before sinking to bottom of the Sibuyan Sea along with her crew.
